Vincent Koeberl (Fat)
Vincent was not fat but that was his nickname. All the Koeberl boys left Marshfield in search of employment including
Vincent. He & his best friend Jerome Drockenberger got a job along with his brothers Ray & Joe at Schlitz Brewery in
Milwaukee. Vince & Jerome got homesick & returned to Marshfield after about 6 months at the Brewery. Vincent was
to meet an unfortunate death when his employer, Central Cheese Co. had fumigated his workplace with Methyl
Bromide on a Saturday & had forgotten Vincent was due to come into work. Nobody had bothered to tell him. Ater
working his shift & inhaling the fumes, he was walking & stumbling home and vomitting. Unfortunately this was not an
uncommon occurrance for him. He was known to have a few drinks at the local taverns and before people realized he
was really in serious trouble the Methyl Bromide fumes had ravaged him and he died days later. It was a painful death
and one that should have been avoided. Vincent was well liked by his brothers and sisters as he stood up in 2 of
their weddings. When my dad (Ray) would tell stories about his brothers & sisters, the name "Vincent" or "Fat"
seemed to always be included in the story. (Vincent was 1 month shy of his 27th birthday when he died.)
